Steven's brother, Robby Hoffman, along with other family members and friends are leading a fundraising campaign to fund this $1 million dollar endowed Fellowship. Your support is crucial to the ongoing fight against lung cancer. Every generous gift will directly contribute to our ability to expand our understanding of lung cancer.
The Steven Hoffman Fellowship in Molecular Genomics at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada will focus on the area of molecular genomics as it pertains specifically to lung cancer. Molecular genomics is the study of the fundamental underlying causes of a disease, involving a study of genetics and proteomics. The researcher who holds this Fellowship will have four main objectives:
- To understand the molecular causes of lung cancer
- To understand the molecular basis of malignancy and tumor growth
- To discover genetic markers for early detection and prognosis
- To develop new therapies to reverse molecular changes leading to cancer
The Steven Hoffman Fellowship in Molecular Genomics will support the work of a promising scientist who would be devoted to genetic and translational research in lung cancer. The Fellow will work under the direction of senior research scientists and benefit from collaboration with our other internationally-renowned and established medical researchers.
It is also hoped that the in the pursuit of these aims, breakthroughs and discoveries will also contribute significantly to the understanding of other types of cancers.
